Made an online reservation, showed availability for all car classes. They did call the next morning but we didn’t see it. Arrived only to find out they had no cars available. Funny though, all these cars were sitting in the lot. We were looking to rent for the day to do some sight seeing. No help to try and find another car. Enterprise seems to do this a lot.
I had one of the worst rental car experiences I have ever had with Enterprise in Spartanburg, South Carolina. My truck broke down while I was traveling with my daughter, and we were stranded in a city we are not from. I called multiple Enterprise locations in Spartanburg trying to find a rental. I was passed around between locations, and two different places told me they had vehicles available. When I called one of them back, they suddenly said they did not have anything. I then had someone drive me to the location that said they had a car available. While we were driving there, I stayed on hold for about 20 minutes trying to confirm that they still had the vehicle they had already told me was available. Nobody ever answered the phone the entire drive. After arriving, I was still turned away. At the second location, the manager asked me, “Why didn’t you call first?” I explained that I did call first, I was told they had cars, and I was literally on hold the whole way there trying to confirm. Even when I arrived, they initially acted like vehicles were available before the situation changed again. The manager was rude, dismissive, and showed very little concern for the fact that I was stranded with my daughter after a vehicle breakdown. I also spoke with the Enterprise commercial location in Spartanburg, and that experience was no better. I understand that a commercial location may not rent regular passenger cars, but the way the entire situation was handled was unprofessional. After dealing with three different Enterprise locations in Spartanburg in one day, my opinion is that these locations are poorly managed, poorly trained, and not customer-service focused. I own a company myself, and when something goes wrong, I do not blame the customer. I take responsibility and fix the problem. That is what good management does. The excuse I kept hearing was that they were understaffed. From my experience, the bigger issue was lack of training, lack of communication, and poor leadership. A customer should not be told a car is available, left on hold for 20 minutes while driving there, and then be treated like they did something wrong when they arrive. I rent from Enterprise regularly in Asheville and have had much better experiences there, but after this situation in Spartanburg, I do not want to rent from Enterprise again. I hope corporate reads this and takes a serious look at how these Spartanburg, SC locations are being operated, especially the management. Based on my experience, I would not recommend renting from Enterprise in Spartanburg.
Wanted to update my review and include Braxton at the Buncombe Rd location as another great employee. I wasn’t familiar with the car’s modern system, so I was under the impression it might have an electrical issue. There was nothing wrong with it. I brought it in and Braxton patiently showed me why it appears to stop running when idling and reassured me it was doing exactly what it’s supposed to do. He explained that technology well. Very easy to reach the local office by phone. Extremely professional, helpful and courteous. All around excellent customer service at this Buncombe Rd location. Eric and John were the gentlemen helping me. I’ve had good experiences with the Lauren’s Rd location too, particularly with Ryan in April who was great (whom I think is usually in Mauldin), but I recently posted a review expressing frustration in May when I attempted repeatedly to speak to the local office on Laurens to ask questions only they would be able to answer, but the system kept putting me through to the automated call center. I think there was a miscommunication when I finally got through to a live local person on Laurens, but they sent me back to the call center. I was able to talk to Lauren’s Rd directly in the past, so maybe it was just busy times when I was trying to speak with them. I’m glad I booked with Buncombe this time though.
They were very nice. Customer service was awesome. Would definitely rent from them again if I need a rental car. All went well.
I recently rented a car from the downtown Greenville location and could not speak more highly of the staff here. Huge shoutout to Jon as well whom I primarily worked with. I had been involved in a car accident several weeks prior, and he took the time go through options, patiently explaining everything very clearly and was genuinely kind. He went out of his way to help me, making my stressful situation a much better experience overall. Thank you!
