TLDR: I found Dr. Hetman to be unprofessional, unhelpful, and borderline lazy and sexist but I really don't want to use those terms lightly. Steer clear and go to Dr. Amy Haase at Diagnostic Foot Specialists instead! The long version: I hate to leave a negative review, but I want to contribute my experience with Dr. Jeff Hetman so others don't go through what I did. I received a referral from my PCP to see a podiatrist when they noted swelling in my MTP joint. Since I can self-refer with my insurance plan, I looked for the earliest openings and Foot Specialists PA came up so I scheduled my initial eval. My scheduled appointmetn time was for 3:15pm and I arrived at 2:45pm. Despite filling out extensive paperworok during my pre-check in online, I was required to fill out another long form in the waiting room when I arrived. This form was on an ipad that kept glitching and reloading so it was frustrating to complete. This form was never referenced or used again so it honestly felt like a waste of time, but I guess it gave me something to do while I was waiting because I wasn't seen until 3:50pm (35 minutes after my scheduled appt time and an hour after I had arrived). When Dr. Hetman examined my foot, he immediately said I didn't have enough fat on my foot and there wasn't anything I could do about it. He also chided me saying I should have come in sooner and that there wasn't a lot he coudl do (I had told him I had a planned hhiking trip in a few weeks and I was looking for advice. He said, "don't go on the trip"). Dr. Hetman did offer to give me oral steroids but I declined because my PCP had already given me a prescription for those (I hadn't picked them up or started then yet). I asked Dr. Hetman if a localized steroid shot would be recommended instead because oral steroids disrupt my birth control effectiveness and I had unfortunately had to take a few packs of steroids over the last year for other illnesses. Dr. Hetman replied "I coudl do it for you, but you wouldn't like it." He didn't say "it's not recommended for x reason" just that it would be too painful for me and he didn't think I'd like it, despite me telling him repeatedly I was looking for inflammation relief, preferred something different than oral steroids, and stating that I would like to receive the shot if he would provide it and thought it would be helpful. He walked out of the room at that point. I actually had to follow him around the office hallways as he ducked into other rooms to continue his meetings with other patients just to try and get him to explian to me why he was not recommending the shot (or any care) and if he had any other prognosis or care instructions. It was pretty awkward and the receptionists and tech's definitely looked uncomfortable. I tried to apologize to them and explained the doctor had walked out of the room before answering my questions and providing me care instructions. Unfortunately, I left Dr. Hetman's office with no treatment recommendations. He did wrap my foot with a pad, but I had to take the wrap off later that night to shower. *** thankfully, I was able to get a second opinion at Diagnostic Foot Specialists with Dr. Amy Haase who was professional, helpful, and knoweldgeable. She provided me with the specific name of my diagnosis, a long term care plan including PT exercises, shoe inserts, dancer's pads cut specifically for my foot pain, and she provided the localized steroid shot to immediately reduce my inflammation and pain. PS, the shot was literally not a big deal and less painful than a paper cut in my opinion.

I was terrified when I made my first appointment. He took the time to listen and then educated me about my feet and the healing process. The physical therapy team is extremely supportive and coached me through the movements/exercises so that I could improve through performing them at home between visits. And everyone one of them have experienced the pain and frustration of a foot injury.

I’ve had a fantastic experience with Dr. Hetman and his staff. From consult to surgery and then follow ups and physical therapy, he made me very comfortable and confident about the procedure (and I had consultations with 2 other Podiatrists before finding him). Thank you again!

Dr. Hetman made me feel extremely comfortable. He’s personable and spent plenty of time explaining my surgery and follow up. My ankle is healing quickly and the scar is barely noticeable after 6 weeks. His staff is friendly, especially Robert, and I have never had a wait. Best experience with a doctor ever!
