We decided to book a table at Monsoon after seeing the many positive reviews. The food in the photos looked very appealing and delicious, which made us excited to try it. When we arrived, we were greeted by two staff members who were very friendly. We were the first customers in the restaurant, which is quite small with limited seating, so I would recommend making a booking if you’re planning to visit. After we placed our orders, the drinks came out first. As time passed, more customers started arriving and the restaurant quickly became packed. It’s also worth noting that they accept takeaway orders. The first starter took a while to arrive. We ordered the squid, which unfortunately was a bit underwhelming. The sauce itself was good, but there was an overwhelming amount of fish roe that overpowered the dish. Our second starter was the seafood gyoza, which was okay but nothing particularly memorable. After finishing our starters, we noticed that staff were quite attentive to other tables. However, our empty plates weren’t collected for quite some time and we felt that our table was repeatedly overlooked. This also felt like a missed opportunity for additional drink orders. Our mains eventually arrived after another wait. We ordered the chicken and the pork belly. The chicken had a very nice flavour, but it seemed to be overly fried, making it quite hard to eat. The pork belly, on the other hand, was delicious and definitely the highlight of the meal. Overall, there’s room for improvement when it comes to service. Hopefully during busy dinner periods they can add more staff to better look after dine-in guests rather than focusing mostly on takeaway orders. Food-wise, there is definitely potential. Some dishes were good, but given the strong reviews, we were expecting a bit more.
My husband and I dined here for our last night in Launceston, it honestly was one of the best meals we’ve ever had, we had the duck pancakes which were lovely, as well as the seafood dumplings which were next level amazing.. we finished with the Spaghetti Tomyum King Prawns…. This was the most delicious meal we have ever had…. We can not thank you enough for the most delightful dining experience…..
We are vegan and this food was incredibl lots of options. Great flavours and presentation. A wonderful dinner to end our trip, highly recommend. Make sure you book we got the last table on a Monday night.
Authentic Thai food; we love all the dishes we order -so yummy
Amazing food, as Vegans we were in Heaven. The Vegan Duck curry was "to die for" , cosy and great service. Worth visiting Launceston just to eat here.
